About Us
Since its founding in 1914, Hillside volunteers have done more than simply put out fires; the volunteers members and the Ladies Auxiliary are responsible for a number of community service programs that include, but aren't limited to, our annual Christmas Tree Fundraiser, holiday parties for children such our Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween Parade, Santa's Run on the fire engine, youth athletic team sponsorships, academic scholarships for high school seniors getting a secondary education and much much more. Hillside Hose Company No. 1 has fostered a proud tradition of helping others for nearly 100 years: Qualified firefighters teach fire safety to the public. We conduct neighborhood safety patrols and ensure safety for events such as the July 4th fireworks, graduation ceremonies, or other permitted events. We help keep our water supply (hydrants and apparatus) in working order and conduct safety checks to ensure that firefighters have the required access to the residents we protect.
As Hillside Hose volunteers, firefighters take the same courses and training open to paid career firefighters - with no charge for tuition or books. All you need is the interest, dedication, and willingness to give some of your time.
Finally, we enjoy fellowship and fun at picnics, dinner meetings, and a variety of activities. There's something for everyone. The minimum age to join is 16.
